Overview

The course Organizational Research offers students a solid introduction to the theory and practice of organizational research. It shows both qualitative and quantitative methods and provides students with the tools to research complex organizational problems, examine performance, and curate evidence-based decisions. Students will learn how the major components to engaged and ethical organizational research - research design, data collection, and data analysis and interpretation - operate within organizational settings with real-world implications. Using case studies, applied projects, and critical review, participants will learn how to build research questions, select an inquiry approach, and implement ethical standards as they conduct their research. Students will be prepared to build their own organizational research design and implement it as an effective research process that contributes to organizational improvement and innovation. Regardless if a students plans to work in management, human resources, or consulting, the course provides the groundwork for understanding how systematic inquiry can address problems and contribute to strategic planning in organizations in a dynamic context.

Course Outcome

This course, students will be able to design and conduct organizational research using appropriate qualitative and quantitative methods. They will demonstrate the ability to formulate clear research questions, apply ethical research practices, collect and analyze data, and interpret findings to inform decision-making. Students will be able to develop critical thinking skills to evaluate research and apply evidence-based solutions to real-world organizational challenges. Additionally, they will enhance the learners communication skills by presenting research findings effectively. This course prepares students for roles that require analytical thinking and data-driven problem-solving in organizational situations.
